MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track & Field program is thrilled to announce the signing of Jolene Whiteley of The Community Colleges of Spokane in Spokane, Wash. Whiteley attended high school at Cheney HS in Cheney, Wash and is already an incredibly successful collegiate stuÂdent-athlete.
Â
Most recently, Whiteley won the NWAC Cross Country title, which encompasses all the junior colleges in the Northwest. She won the 5000m race by an impressive 43 seconds, running 18:25. The race at the NWAC comÂpleted a breakthrough cross country season for Jolene. She had impressive performances throughout the season, including running personal bests of 17:38 for 5000m and 21:51 for 6000m. Her 17:38 performance was at the InÂland Empire Championship meet where the Idaho squad also competed. Whiteley would have been the fourth runÂner for the Idaho team that day, a competitive team that would go on to place second at the Big Sky ChamÂpionships three weeks later. Whiteley placed third in the NWAC Cross Country Championship meet as a freshman.
Â
Whiteley also had an outstanding track & field seaÂson. She scored an astonishing 28 points at the NWAC Track & Field Championship meet last spring, winning NWAC titles in the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m, and also placed second in the 1500m. She ran personal bests of 4:45.04 for 1500m, 11:25.99 for the 3000m steepleÂchase, and 18:26.32 in the 5000m. She looks in position to smash those personal bests this spring.
Â
Whiteley competed in cross country and track & field at Cheney HS. Her solid high school career was highlightÂed by placing sixth at the Washington State Track & Field Championships as a senior.
Â
"Jolene brings some experience with her to the team. She has already found success at the college level and should be an immediate impact. We are happy to have her join the family." –
