MOSCOW, Idaho—The Idaho Women's Basketball team will travel to San Luis Obispo, California this weekend to take on Lamar University on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Old Dominion University Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Shareslo Holiday Classic hosted by Cal Poly.
Friday and Saturdays matchup will not be live streamed, however live stats are available.
SCOUTING IDAHO
Idaho hits the road again for the fourth time this season to play a pair of neutral site matches in San Luis Obispo.
The Vandals hit the road to the West Coast last week recording wins against San Francisco 66-60 and against Seattle 90-84 in a thrilling double overtime game.
The Vandals have now won three games in a row since dropping the season opener to Oklahoma State in Stillwater and are 3-1 on the season.
Idaho is led by
Gina Marxen who was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week by the conference office and College Sports Madness following her career-high 30-point performance at Seattle U last week.
Marxen leads the Vandals with 16 points per game and is also averaging a team-high 3.8 assists per game. The sophomore point guard also leads the Big Sky Conference in minutes per game (39.8), three-pointers made per game (3.8) and assist/turnover ratio (3.8).
Along with Marxen, freshman
Beyonce Bea put on a career performance at Seattle with 27 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, including a game-tying three-pointer to force overtime. Bea leads the Vandals on the boards this season with 8.3 per game and is averaging in double-figures offensively with 13.5 points per game.
As a team this season, the Vandals are outscoring their opponents by one point a game. Defensively, the Vandals are having success defending the perimeter this season, holding opposing teams to just 23.6 percent from the deep.
SCOUTING LAMAR
Lamar enters the Sahreslo Holliday Classic Tournament on a three-game losing streak 1-4 season following losses to North Carolina State, Baylor and Louisiana-Lafayette in the past two weeks. Most recently, the Cardinals dropped a game at home to Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday 74-63.
For the Cardinals, Angel Hastings leads the way offensively with 11.4 points per game, followed by Amber Vidal who is averaging 11.2 per game. However, last time out against the Rajun Cajuns, only one Cardinal scored in double figures. Jadyn Pimental led Lamar with 13 points against Louisana-Lafayette and is averaging 8.5 points per game this season.
On average, Lamar is outscored by its opponents by 15 points per game. The Cardinals opposition so far this season is shooting 48 percent from the floor compared to just 31 percent themselves.
Lamar has yet to win a game away from home this season and was picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference this season.
SCOUTING OLD DOMINION
Old Dominion enters the Sahreslo Holliday Classic with a 3-1 mark on the season. The only loss thus far for the Monarchs was 56-53 loss at Virginia on Sunday. Prior to Sunday's loss ODU topped Campbell and Winthrop at home and Auburn on the road.
The Monarchs feature two players in double-digits this season. Ajah Wayne leads ODU with 16 points per game while Victoria Morris is averaging 14.3 points per game.
ODU has had success defensively this season, holding its opponents to just 55.3 points per game. The Monarchs are averaging 67.3 points per game offensively.
LAST TIME OUT VS LAMAR
Idaho last faced Lamar on November 28
th, 2009 in a neutral site contest. The Cardinals topped the Vandals 68-56.
LAST TIME OUT VS OLD DOMINION
This will be the first meeting between the Vandals and the Monarchs.
