Idaho comes up short 47-44 to Lamar

Box Score SAN LUIS OBISPO. Calif. -The University of Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball Team fell to the Lamar University Cardinals 47-44 in game one of the Sharelso Holliday Beach Classic. Despite opening the game on an 8-0, the Vandals fell behind to the Cardinals by as many as 10 points midway through the third quarter. Idaho outscored Lamar 15-11 in the fourth, however it was not enough as the Cardinals downed Idaho 47-44.

THE GAME

Idaho began the game with a hot start offensively with an 8-0 run over Lamar. Following a timeout, Lamar closed the first quarter on a 7-4 run, to cut Idaho's lead to 12-7 entering the second quarter of play.
 
The Vandals began to struggle offensively in the second quarter, scoring just seven points to trail Lamar 24-19 at the half.
 
Offensive struggles continued in the third quarter for the Vandals as Lamar built its largest lead of the game 34-23 with 5:06 remaining. Idaho responded with a 6-2 run to close out the quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter the Vandals found succuss offensively shooting 55.6 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three. Gina Marxen cut Lamar's lead to 41-40 following a three-pointer with 1:14 remaining. After falling behind 47-41 to Lamar late in the game, Marxen again knocked down a three-pointer with two seconds to go to trail 46-44. However, the Vandals offensive effort in the fourth wasn't enough as Lamar took the win 47-44.
Beyonce Bea led the Vandals with 14 points while Gina Marxen added 10.
 

THE NOTES

There was only one lead change in the game. Idaho led for the opening quarter while Lamar led the rest of the way.
Neither side shot well from beyond-the-arc, however the Vandals carried the advantage shooting 14.8 percent with four made three pointers, compared to just 5.9 percent and one made three by Lamar.
The Cardinals narrowly edged the Vandals from the floor 32 percent to 31 percent, while the Vandals held the edge from the free-throw line with 10 made free-throws on 66 percent shooting, compared to 10 made free-throws on 52 percent shooting.
Lamar;s biggest advantage over the Vandals was in turnovers. Idaho turned the ball over 25 times compared to just 17 by Lamar. The Cardinals turned Idaho's turnovers in to 18 points.
Idaho narrowly held the advantage over Lamar on the boards 39 to 38. Gina Marxen led the Vandals in rebounds with seven.


THE NAME


Beyonce Bea led the Vandals in scoring for the first time this season with 14 points. The freshman also contributed five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Idaho will take on Old Dominion in game two of the Shareslo Holliday Beach Classic tomorrow Saturday, November 30th at noon.
