MISSOULA, Mont. – Idaho football travels to Missoula to take on Montana with the Little Brown Stein on the line. Kickoff from Missoula is set for 1 p.m. MT and will be televised live on ROOT Sports Northwest. Idaho is 55-28-2 all-time against Montana, but lost in last year's matchup at home, 46-27.
Â
ABOUT IDAHO: The Vandals (4-5, 2-3 BSC) took control of the ground game against Cal Poly last weekend, outgaining the Mustangs 244-145.Â
Aundre Carter outgained the Mustangs by himself, and finished the day with 179 yards and two touchdowns. The Vandal defense continued its strong play and held the Cal Poly offense to 242 total yards, and just 97 yards in the air.
Â
ABOUT MONTANA: The Grizzlies (7-2, 4-1 BSC) defeated Portland State, 38-23, last weekend. Montana quarterback Cam Humphrey led the way with 335 yards and four scores, while running back Marcus Knight added 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Montana has been able to turn things on in the second half all season. So far in 2019, Montana is being outscored by an average of two points per game (16.9-14.9) in the first half, but has outscored opponents by nearly 15 points per game (22.9-8.1) in the second half of games.
Â
WELCOME BACK CARTER:
Aundre Carter returned to the lineup against Cal Poly, after missing the previous two games. He jumped right back into the swing of things and went off for a career-high 179 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Carter leads the Vandals in rushing this season with 557 yards (79.6 yards per game). He also leads the team with seven touchdowns.
Â
LITTLE BROWN STEIN: Since 1938 Idaho and Montana have played for the traveling trophy, the Little Brown Stein. Since the rivalry took a name, Idaho is 36-23-1 in the matchup. Idaho has been without the Stein since Montana took it back on Sept. 9, 2000.
Â
HIGHTOWER GOES BACK-TO-BACK: Lloyd Hightower snagged an interception against Cal Poly, marking the second consecutive game with a pick for the senior. He's the first Vandal to do so since
Ed Hall in 2017. No Vandal has recorded an interception in three straight games since Stanley Franks did so in six straight in 2006.
