Men Climb Leaderboard in Round Two

Three Vandals shot under par Monday

BANDON, Ore. - Three Vandals shot under par, including two on the scoring team, as Idaho men's golf bounced back Monday, with a 2-over 290 to match their second-lowest score of the season and climb two spots to 15th after two rounds of the Bandon Dunes Championship. Travis Hansen shaved 15 strokes off of his first-round score to shoot a team-best 70 (2-under) in the second round. Hansen was joined in the red numbers by Colt Sherrell's 1-under 71. Klaus Ganter, playing the tournament as an individual, matched Hansen's 2-under performance.

"Today was a great day," said head coach David Nuhn. "The season is a marathon and I think they guys are starting to be rewarded for staying positive and patient. The weather was much improved today, but you could also see them knocking the rust off. Today showed we're headed in the right direction. They didn't do anything different or out of the norm, it's just a progression and taking advantage of another rep and another opportunity to get better."

Hansen carded three birdies and one bogey Monday, a day after shooting three bogeys and six double bogeys on the same course. Sherrell also posted three birdies on his way to going 1-under in the round. Ganter led Idaho with four birdies Monday. He opened the day with a bogey but went 3-under the rest of the way.

"I'm very happy for Travis, Colt and Klaus" Nuhn said. "Enrique (Marin) also battled back from a tough start to post a very solid score."

Sherrell leads the Vandals through two rounds at 5-over, tied for 40th overall. He is followed immediately by Enrique Marin, whose 6-over puts him in a tie for 48th. Marin shot a 1-over 73 Monday. He played his final nine holes at 3-under.

All seven Vandals in the field improved their scores from the first to second rounds. Sean Langham added Idaho's fourth counting score with a 4-over 76 Monday, 10 strokes better than his Sunday round. Cole Chrisman and Joel Veenstra (individual) each shot a 79 (7-over).

The final round of the Bandon Dunes Classic is set for Tuesday, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
