NUEVO VALLARTA, Mexico - Idaho women's golf is tied for fourth after 36 holes at the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational. The Vandals posted a 14-over 302 Friday, in the second round. Sophomore
Valeria Patino led the way with an even-par 72 to climb into a tie for 12th at 4-over for the tournament. Freshman
Vicky Tsai is still the top Vandal performer, tied for seventh at 2-over.
Patino led a trio of Vandals who showed marked improvement in the second round. Senior
Michelle Kim shot a 4-over 76 Friday, a team-best six-stroke improvement from her first round.
Laura Gerner's 79 was three strokes better than Thursday.
"Today was another solid day for the Vandals," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "We saw excellent improvement from Michelle, Valeria and Laura on another windy day of play. We'll look to finish strong tomorrow. We will need a solid day of putting to move up the leaderboard."
Idaho is tied with Chattanooga through two rounds. They are two shots behind third-place Tennessee and eight strokes behind second-place Fresno State. Kennesaw State is just one shot behind the Vandals and Mocs.
Tsai recorded pars on her first 10 holes, but carded two double bogeys in the final four holes to slip to 5-over on the day. She is six strokes out of the lead, but just one shot from the top five.
Sophie Hausmann is tied with Patino in 12th at 4-over. Hausmann had three birdies on the day, but six holes over par left her with a 77 to match Tsai's score.
