OGDEN, Utah – The University of Idaho placed 49 student-athletes on the 2018-19 Big Sky Winter All-Academic Teams.  The winter season features four sports, in men's and women's indoor track and field, and men's and women's basketball.
 
Women's indoor track and field placed 23 student-athletes on the all-academic team.  Kaleala Bass, Andrea Condie, Lauren Curlanis and Erin Hagen wrap up their indoor careers as four-time Big Sky Winter All-Academic recipients.
 
Women's basketball tied for the Big Sky lead with nine student-athletes.  The Splash Sisters, Mikayla Ferenz and Taylor Pierce, both earned the recognition for the fourth time in their storied careers.  Ferenz was also recognized last month as the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, after earning CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors for the second consecutive year.
 
Men's track and field featured 16 student-athletes, including nine student-athletes earning the recognition for the third time.  All nine have one season of indoor track and field eligibility remaining.  Men's basketball placed one, with Scott Blakney earning the recognition for the second season.
 
To be eligible for the recognition, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.  Indoor track and field student-athletes can also qualify by participating at the Big Sky Championships.
