MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball added another for next season, signing Bruce "BJ" Simmons from Trinity Valley Community College.
"We are really excited about BJ's decision to join the Vandals," said head men's basketball coach,
Don Verlin. "He brings experience, athleticism and versatility to our backcourt with the ability to play both guard positions."
Simmons, a 6-2 guard, joins the Vandals after one season at Trinity Valley in Athens, Texas. There, Simmons averaged 9.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, while posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.1. He shot nearly 44 percent from the floor, better than 35 percent from beyond the arc and 77 percent from the free throw line. Originally from Cedar Hill, Texas, Simmons previously played for Next Level Prep Academy.
"According to the coaches at Trinity Valley, BJ was the 'glue" guy who sacrificed his individual stats and accolades for the good of their team, and led them to the junior college national tournament," Verlin said. "I love BJ's leadership qualities and believe that he will be able to step in and contribute immediately."
Trinity Valley was tremendous in 2018-19. The Cardinals finished the year at 28-8 and won the Region XIV Tournament to earn a spot in the NJCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kans.
