Vandals Finish Seventh at Big Sky Championships

Three Vandals shot under par Sunday in the final round

04/28/2019

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Idaho men's golf finished seventh at the 2019 Big Sky Conference Championships. The Vandals finished strong, shooting 1-under in the final round, including three individuals who carded sub-par scores on the last day. Idaho closed the tournament at 22-over as a team. Sophomore Cole Chrisman was the team's top finisher at 2-over, tying for 19th.

Chrisman started his day with a bang, posting an eagle on the par-five second. He dropped a stroke on five, but turned in 13 consecutive pars to close his round and finish the round at 1-under 71. After shooting 3-over in the first round, Chrisman rebounded to fire 1-under over the final 36 holes and close the event at 2-over 218. The 71 matched his lowest score at a conference championship, which he first accomplished last season in the second round. Chrisman was Idaho's second-best finisher in 2018, tying for 12th at 5-over.

Enrique Marin and Colt Sherrell also finished the day at 1-under and both tied for 21st overall at 4-over. Marin's round started with 10 straight pars before a bogey on 11. He closed with a flurry, posting birdies on 14, 16 and 17. A bogey on 18 rounded out the senior's final round.

Sherrell, named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year earlier in the week, began Sunday's round with a birdie on the first hole. He sputtered into the turn with bogeys on eight and nine, but picked it up again on the back nine. Sherrell birdied 12 to get back to even and a birdie on the par-five 16th gave him his first sub-par round at a conference championship.

Joseph Glenn turned in Idaho's fourth counting score Sunday, carding a 2-over 74. Glenn had a team-best four birdies on the day. He was 2-under at the turn before bookending his back nine with a pair of double bogeys. Glenn was inserted into the Idaho lineup Saturday, shooting 8-over in the final two rounds.

The conference tournament concludes the 2019 season, also signaling the end of the collegiate careers for Marin and fellow senior Klaus Ganter. Marin was a three-time All-Big Sky performer, including two first-team honors. Ganter played in 20 tournaments over three years with the Vandals after transferring from Central Florida.
