MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball got together for one final time before the summer break, looking back on the year that was at the annual team awards dinner.
Head coach
Don Verlin handed out seven awards on the night, as voted on by the team at the end of the season.
Trevon Allen took home the Ronald White Award for the team's most outstanding player. Allen led the Vandals at 14.0 points per game, stepping into the starting role after primarily coming off the bench in his first two seasons. Allen also led the Vandals in assists and finished in the top-10 in the Big Sky in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Scott Blakney picked up a pair of awards. First, he earned the Kathy Clark Award for combined athletics and academic excellence. Blakney was named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team for the second straight season. He also earned the Oz Thompson Award, given to the student-athlete that best inspires sportsmanship, scholarship and leadership.
Chance Garvin also earned two awards. He was named the George Green Award recipient, given to the team's most unselfish player. Garvin also received the Mike Sprenger Award. The award goes to the student-athlete that embodies what a Vandal should be, by showing grit, heart and character. After redshirting as a freshman, Garvin played sparingly during his second year in Moscow, but really came alive in 2018-19 before sustaining a season-ending injury in January.
Marquell Fraser took home the Jay Gano Award for most inspirational. Fraser was outstanding for the Vandals during the non-conference portion of the season, but missed the remainder of the year due to injury. Even so, Fraser remained a vocal presence on the bench and in the locker room throughout the season.
Finally,
Jared Rodriguez earned the Gus Johnson Award. Named after the legendary Vandal, the award is given to Idaho's top rebounder/defender. Rodriguez led the team with 6.5 boards per game.
