Patterson Joins Vandals

Men's golf welcomes TJ Patterson to the squad next year

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's golf head coach David Nuhn announced Wednesday, the addition of TJ Patterson to the Vandals' roster for the 2019-20 season. Patterson comes to Moscow from Granite Bay High School in Granite Bay, Calif.

"I am really excited to welcome TJ to our team," Nuhn said. "He works with one of the top instructors in Northern California and comes from a high school with a rich tradition of producing top-level Division I talent. His passion for the game, as well as his work ethic are really exciting. He is going to push these guys in every area and I know he's excited to compete and help our team's successes."

Patterson was an All-Sierra Foothill League honoree in 2019 for Granite Bay, including two top-three individual finishes during the season.

"TJ is one of the strongest leaders we have ever had in our program," said Granite Bay head coach Tim Healy. "He has an intuitive understanding of building team chemistry and making everyone around him a better player and person. I have never seen a person more committed to his teammates. TJ has an unparalleled work ethic that is contagious!"

Patterson broke out in 2018, with a runner-up finish at the Sacramento City Junior Championship. He followed that showing taking third place at the Future Collegians World Tour Junior Golf Tournament at Centennial Golf Club in Medford, Ore. He added a fourth-place finish at the 2018 Optimist World Junior Qualifier.

"It has been a privilege to coach TJ," said Phil Dawson, Patterson's swing coach. "His combination of passion, hard work and great grades will make him a strong addition to the Idaho program. TJ is the rare athlete who brings a great attitude every day and will push not only himself, but his teammates to be their best."

Patterson is poised to join Idaho's young nucleus, which includes incoming freshman Jackson Jacob and reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year Colt Sherrell.

"In TJ and Jackson I believe we have one of the strongest 2019 classes in the Big Sky and I'm excited to get going in late August," Nuhn said.
