TEMPE, Ariz.— For the third consecutive year, University of Idaho women's tennis earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award along with eight student-athletes (men and women) receiving individual honors for their academic accomplishments. The organization released its 2019 All-Academic and Scholar-Athletes list on Thursday morning.

On the women's side, the Vandals were one of 222 division I women's tennis teams to earn the ITA All-Academic Team honor. Idaho was one of seven Big Sky schools to earn the award including Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Sacramento State, Montana, Northern Colorado, Weber State and Northern Arizona.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).

Individually, six Vandal women captured the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. Recently graduated
Marianna Petrei and
Maria Tavares earned their fourth straight award while rising seniors
Shion Watabe and
Maggie Chen nabbed their third and second honor, respectively. Rising juniors
Marta Magalhães and
Laura Spataro were also recognized with their second Scholar-Athlete honor.

The Idaho men's tennis program also had two receiving recognition as recently graduated
Lucas Coutinho and rising sophomore
Bruno Casino- Remondo were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. It is the third award for
Coutinho and the first for
Casino- Remondo.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

In all, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across five divisions of college tennis were honored.Â
