MOSCOW, Idaho - A flurry of first-half goals propelled Idaho (2-1) to a 3-0 victory over Oregon Tech on Friday in the Kibbie Dome.
Â
Sophomore
Maddie Haas found herself in the right place at the right time for the second game in a row to unlock the scoring for the Vandals, who outshot the Owls in the game, 18-3.
Â
Senior
Myah Merino sped down the left flank and slipped behind the defense in the 21st minute. Her low shot was saved, but the rebound trickled into the six-yard box and Haas was in the perfect spot to put it in for the opening goal at 21:01.
Â
The invigorated Vandal offense put the Owl back line under pressure and it paid off just 10 minutes later.
Â
Freshman defender
Emmy Moore intercepted a clearing pass, found herself with free space in the middle of the field and unleashed a 30-yard bomb rocket that lifted over the Owl keeper's outstretched fingers and ducked under the crossbar for her first collegiate score at 30:22.
Â
Another Vandal freshman opened her tally just four minutes later off an Idaho corner kick.
Â
The Owls blocked and cleared senior
Kayleigh Frederick's first header, but
Trinity Paulsen stepped in and hammered a follow-up shot that careened into the left corner for Idaho's third goal in a 13-minute span.
Â
The Vandal back line produced its second straight shutout and made it easy on the keepers--the Owls' three shots all came in the second half and none were on frame.
Â
Through three matches, the Vandal defense has not allowed a goal in the run of play.
Â
Idaho takes its momentum into a heavyweight matchup on Sunday when SEC foe Mississippi State visits the Kibbie Dome for a 3 p.m. matchup.
