ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Idaho women's golf tied for 14th place at its first event of the season, the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Junior
Valeria Patino led the way, tying for 32nd place at 5-over for the tournament. Sophomore
Eddie Hsu was the low Vandal in the final round Tuesday, shooting a 3-over 75. Hsu finished tied for 58th at 11-over.
Hsu recovered from two bogeys in her first three holes Tuesday, by posting a birdie on the fourth and settling in from there. Another birdie on her 17th hole of the day helped Hsu get into the clubhouse at 3-over, one stroke off her career best score to par.
Patino entered the final round at even par and in the top 15, but carded seven bogeys in her first 14 holes to fall out of the top 25. She salvaged a strong finish with back-to-back birdies to close the round. Patino recorded a team-best eight birdies throughout the three rounds.
The Vandals continue their fall season next week close to home. Idaho will compete Monday and Tuesday, at the WSU Cougar Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash. Fans are welcome to attend the event and support the Vandals. Idaho will remain nearby the following week, as well, at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational.
