LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Idaho volleyball played a pair of five-set matches on Friday at the UNLV Invitational, earning the split on the day. Idaho defeated UNLV, then fell to Pacific.
The Vandals got the day started with a five-set win over the hosts on Friday morning. UNLV took the opening set, 25-19, but Idaho settled in for the second to win 25-20. The third set went back-and-forth, with the Rebels eventually winning 28-20.
Idaho stayed locked in to take the fourth, 25-18. The fifth set did not disappoint, needing extra points to settle the winner, with the Vandals coming out on top, 20-18.
Idaho kept up the strong play into the second match of the day, against Pacific. The Vandals took the first two sets by identical 25-23 scores, but the Tigers bounced back in the third. Pacific was dominant in the third, winning 25-16.
Pacific also took the fourth, by another 25-23 score. The Tigers came out hot and took an early lead in the fifth that they would not relinquish, taking the set 15-10 and the match, 3-2.
The Vandals close out play in Las Vegas against Texas Tech on Saturday morning at 11:30.
