RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Some strides were taken on Friday night, but Idaho soccer ultimately fell to UC Riverside, 1-0, on the road. Idaho will next take on Cal Baptist at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Highlanders scored the game-winner in the 38
th minute on a corner kick. Maria Gallardo got the play started, Amanda Roy redirected and Brianna Saldana finished for what would be the only goal of the contest.
Idaho outshot UCR, 11-10, including 6-2 in shots-on-goal.
Savannah Foster led the way for Idaho with four shots, three on target. The Vandals had their chances, but UCR's Caela Kaio was up to the challenge, making six saves. The young Vandals used eight freshmen on the night.
The Vandals fall to 2-5 on the season with just three games remaining in non-conference play. Idaho will remain in Riverside to take on Cal Baptist in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
