COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Idaho women's golf sits in a tie for second place following the first two rounds of the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational Monday, at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course. The Vandals are tied with Nevada at 15-over, trailing only tournament-host Gonzaga.
Vicky Tsai continued the hot start to her sophomore season, shooting 1-over through 36 holes. Tsai is tied for third entering the final round.
The Vandals scrambled to shoot an 8-over 292 in the first round. The four counting scores included 22 bogeys, but 12 birdies and an eagle helped keep Idaho in the hunt. A steadier second round netted a 7-over 291.
Tsai started both rounds with bogeys on the par-four 16th, but responded each time with a birdie on 17. She made up the most ground on the shortest holes, carding birdies on three par threes during the first round. Tsai added another par-three birdie in her second round, en route to shooting an even-par 71.
Junior
Valeria Patino is two strokes behind Tsai, tied for 12th at 3-over. Patino carded eagles on the par-four 17th in both rounds. Her even-par 71 in the second round catapulted her 16 spots on the leaderboard after opening with a 3-over 74. Senior
Danika Palm led the Vandals after the first round, shooting an even-par 71. Palm is tied for 39th at 8-over with 18 holes to play.
The final round of the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational tees off Tuesday, at 7:45 a.m. The Vandals will go off in the lead group, starting on the first hole. Spectators are welcome at the course.
