Vandals Excel in the Classroom, Tie Department GPA Record

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho Athletics wrapped up a tremendous semester in the classroom, tying a department record with a 3.22 grade-point average.  In all, 213 student-athletes finished the semester at or above 3.0, while 68 earned perfect 4.0 GPAs.

"I couldn't be more proud of the efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom this fall," said Director of Athletics, Terry Gawlik.  "To tie the department record for GPA is an incredible achievement and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the spring.

"We take academics very seriously here and could not have accomplished this record-tying GPA without the help of our academic staff and the Vandal Scholarship Fund.  Your kind donations make it possible for our student-athletes to be successful, both in the classroom and on the field of play."

Of Idaho's 16 programs, 14 posted team GPAs above 3.0.  The other two programs both improved from last semester.

Women's cross country led the way at 3.86, a new program record.  Every member of the squad posted a GPA above 3.4.  The women's track and field team had an outstanding semester as well, finishing at 3.70.  Women's tennis was equally great, posting a 3.70 team GPA as well.  The men's squad saw eight student-athletes finish above 3.0, with the team sitting at 3.30.

Swim and dive continued its run of academic excellence with a team GPA of 3.57.  Ten Vandals posted 4.0 GPAs, while 23 were at or above 3.0.  Soccer (3.50) and volleyball (3.46) also had outstanding semesters.

The men's cross country squad finished at 3.42, with 10 student-athletes above 3.0.  Men's track and field set a new team record with a 3.36 GPA.  The golf programs were stellar, with 16-of-17 total student-athletes finishing at or above 3.0.

Women's basketball recorded its 18th consecutive semester above 3.0 as a team, dating back to 2010.  The men's program showed the largest improvement from the spring, and the football team posted its third highest GPA since 2000.

Classes resumed on Wednesday in Moscow.
