Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho –The University of Idaho women's basketball team (3-2) defeated Seattle U (3-5) in thrilling fashion 105-96 in Memorial Gym. Four Vandals scored in double-figures as the Vandals were led by 33 points from
Beyonce Bea. Freshman
Paris Atchley was electric in the first half scoring 22 points and finished with 26.
Gina Marxen chipped in 23 while freshman
Sydney Gandy offered 14. The Vandals scored 28 points off 17 Redhawk turnovers and made 43 trips to the free-throw line. Idaho finished 37-of-43 from the line.
THE GAME
Seattle U opened the scoring early in the contest going on an 11-4 run following tip-off. The Vandals ability to get to the free-throw line cut the deficit to one during the first period but Idaho was unable to take the lead. Idaho took their first lead of the game at the 3:00 mark in the second period following a pair of free-throws from
Sydney Gandy. An 8-0 gave Idaho a five-point lead 51-45 after a free-throw from
Beyonce Bea.
Paris Atchley knocked down her 22
nd point of the first half from the line at the 2:12 mark giving the Vandals a seven-point lead. Idaho led 56-55 at the half. The Vandals were 22-of-29 from the free-throw line in the first half. Seattle U and Idaho traded buckets to begin the second half before
Rylee Alexander gave Idaho a four-point lead 63-59 following her first career three-pointer. Idaho outscored Seattle 17-14 down the stretch of the third taking an 80-73 lead. With three quick buckets to begin the fourth period the Vandals build an 86-77 lead over Seattle U to begin the fourth. Bea gave the Vandals an 11-point lead 88-77 following a jumper at the 6:13 mark. Idaho outmatched Seattle U the rest of the way racing to 105 points. Idaho shot an impressive 50 percent from the field after finishing 29-of-58. The squad also finished 10-of-26 from three. Idaho dominated from the free-throw line finishing 37-of-43, just one shy of the record in Idaho history.
The Vandals forced 17 Seattle U turnovers and turned the mistakes into a game-high 28 points.
THE NAME
Paris Atchley scored a career-high 26 points in the contest after earning her first start. 22 of her 26 points came in the first half. Atchley drew 12 fouls and finished 15-of-18 from the free-throw line. She was also 5-of-9 from the field and recorded six rebounds along with three assists.
