MOSCOW, Idaho- The University of Idaho Women's basketball team (12-6,7-2) fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (10-9,7-3) 71-70 in Cowan Spectrum Arena, snapping a five-game win streak. Idaho battled with the Lumberjacks throughout but came up short in the final 12 seconds when Lauren Orndoff hit a three for NAU, giving them the lead. There were five lead changes in the game and five ties. Three players scored in double-figures for the Vandals as
Gina Marxen led the squad with 22.
Lizzy Klinker added 11 while
Beyonce Bea chipped in 10.
THE GAME
Idaho opened the game on a 7-0 run following five straight points from
Champney Pulliam and a jumper from
Lizzy Klinker. Northern Arizona quickly erased the lead and went up 17-9 following a 17-2 run over the next eight minutes of play.
Janie King pulled the Vandals within three, 16-19, in the second period following a three-pointer at the 8:06 mark. A 7-2 run from the Lumberjacks gave them a 28-18 lead with 5:26 remaining, their largest lead of the game. The Vandals responded with a 15-5 run to tie the game 33-33 following a layup from
Gina Marxen. NAU took the lead 35-33 at halftime, following a jumper Nina Radford.
Idaho outscored the Lumberjacks 20-18 in the third to tie the game 53-53 entering the fourth period.
Gina Marxen scored five points in the final 1:22 of the third period to tie the game up.
To open the fourth, NAU took the lead 55-53 but the Vandals responded with a quick five points form Marxen and
Beyonce Bea, taking a 58-55 lead. The Vandals found themselves down five to NAU late in the fourth period, 68-63, but seven straight points from Marxen gave Idaho a 70-68 lead with just 18 seconds to go.
Idaho made several defensive stops late in the fourth including a shot clock violation which led to Marxen's go-ahead three pointer. The Vandals made another crucial stop late in the game when
Lizzy Klinker drew an offensive foul, giving Idaho the ball with 12 seconds left. On the ensuing possession for the Vandals
Isabelle Hadden was fouled but missed both shots at the line. Lauren Orndoff drained a three-pointer for NAU with seven seconds remaining, giving them the lead and the win, 71-70.
The loss is the first in five games and the first loss at home this season.

Northern Arizona shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from three-point range while the Vandals shot just 39.7 percent from the floor and 31.0 percent from three.
The Lumberjacks outrebounded Idaho 39-35, but the Vandals took the edge on the offensive boards 11-8 and also outscored NAU 10-9 in second chance points.
Idaho attacked the paint for 24 points while only allowing NAU 18 points in the paint.
The Vandals won the turnover battle, 9-12 against the Lumberjacks but only scored eight points off turnovers, while NAU totaled 13.
There five ties and five lead changes in the game, NAU led for 27 minutes while the Vandals held the advantage for eight minutes.
THE NAME
Gina Marxen led the Vandals with 22 points in the game, including 10 in the fourth period alone. Marxen also dished out six assists and grabbed six rebounds. The sophomore recorded two steals and finished with five three-pointers. Marxen scored seven straight points in a minute and a half to give Idaho a 70-68 lead late in the fourth.
