SPOKANE, Washington—Idaho women's tennis (0-3) fell to Gonzaga (2-3) 4-1 on Saturday.
The Vandals went ahead 1-0 in the match after winning the doubles point.
Nicole Horacek and Marta Magalhaes fell to Maria Frampton and Vlada Medvedcova in the number three doubles pairing 6-2 before Idaho won the remaining matches, earning the point.
Melissa Huchet and
Ilana Oleynik defeated Kate Ketels and Cate Broerman 6-4 before
Maggie Chen and
Laura Spataro took down Taylor Gruber and Haruna Tsuruta 6-4, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play Gonzaga took four straight matches to win the match overall 4-1.
Laura Spataro fell to Cate Broerman 6-3 in the first set of the number one singles match and was ahead 3-2 in the second set when the Bulldogs clinched the match point.
" We started well by winning a good doubles point," said Head Coach
Babar Akbar. "Gonzaga came back and fought really hard and they did a great job of winning four matches. We had a better performance in doubles today, but we need to take that and translate it into better singles play."
UP NEXT
The Vandals return to action with a pair of matches next weekend. Idaho will take on the University of Oregon on Friday Feb. 7
th and the University of Maryland on Feb. 8
th. Both matches will take place in Eugene, Oregon.
