Four score in double-figures as the Vandals run past EWU 75-46

CHENEY, Washington- The University of Idaho Women's basketball team (14-8,9-4) improved to 9-4 in Big Sky Play with a dominating 75-46 win over Eastern Washington in Cheney. The Vandals exploded for 44 points in the second half. Four players scored in double-figures for Idaho led by Gina Marxen who recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 assists.

THE GAME

Beyonce Bea opened the scoring for the Vandals with a three-pointer just 20 seconds into the game. After falling behind 8-7, Gina Marxen drilled a three-pointer to give Idaho a 10-8 lead at the 6:23 mark. The Vandals outscored Eastern Washington 11-3 in the final six minutes of the first period to lead 21-11.
The second period saw offensive struggles for the Vandals with just 10 points. With under a minute to go before half Janie King drained a three-pointer, followed by an Isabelle Hadden jumper, to lead 31-26 at the half.
 
Idaho opened the third period on 8-2, capped with a Marxen three-pointer, to take a 39-28 lead. Idaho scored a game-high 23 points in the third period to take a 54-39 lead into the fourth.
The Vandals offensive picked up right where it left off in the final period with 21 points, while holding the Eagles to just seven points. Nina Carlson put the Vandals up by 31, their largest lead of the game, following a layup with 3:51 to play.
Idaho defeated the Eagles 75-46.

THE NOTES

Idaho tied their season-high with 11 three-pointers in the contest. Marxen finished 6-of-9 from behind the arc as the Vandals shot 42.3 percent from deep.
Four Vandals scored in double-digits; Gina Marxen (18), Beyonce Bea (14), Lizzy Klinker (13), Isabelle Hadden (12).
The Vandals recorded a season-high 23 assists, led by Gina Marxen with a team-high 12.
Idaho scored 20 points off 16 forced turnovers while the Eagles managed just six points off turnovers.



THE NAME


Gina Marxen recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and a career-high 12 assists. The sophomore finished 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Marxen also totaled five rebounds and two steals.

UP NEXT

The Vandals will return to Moscow to face the Portland State Vikings on Monday night at 6 p.m. in the "Hoops for Hope" Pink game. Fans who wear pink can purchase tickets for three dollars.
