Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Vandals Fall to Vikings

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Idaho men's basketball team fell to Portland State, 90-69, on Monday evening. The Vikings' (13-14, 7-8 BSC) full court pressure never let the Vandals (7-18, 3-11 BSC) get into an offensive rhythm, and PSU earned the conference victory.

THE GAME
There were three ties and five lead changes early on at the Viking Pavilion. With four minutes played, the Vandals led, 10-9, when Damen Thacker hit a jumper. However, PSU went on a 7-0 run to take the lead which would never be relinquished. The Vikings led by as many as 21 in the first period, and took a 45-26 lead into the break.

Thacker hit a jumper from the elbow to get the scoring going in the second half, but the Vikings' pressure kept the Vandals from getting going on the offensive end. A late surge by Idaho brought the deficit to 18, but PSU won, 90-69, to split the season series.

Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 16 points while Thacker chipped in 11. Babacar Thiombane and Marquell Fraser each tallied nine points off the bench.

THE NOTES
Trevon Allen moved into 11th place on the Vandals' All-Time Scoring list. He now has 1236 career points, nine out of 10th place.

Allen has now led the squad in scoring 19 times this season.

Thiombane scored a career-high nine points.

Jaxon Woodward scored his first career point on a free throw late in the game.

The Vandals failed to make a three-pointer. That was the first time since at least the 2005-06 season.

The Vikings forced 16 turnovers, while committed only seven.

Both teams tallied 37 rebounds.

THE NAME
Babacar Thiombane. Thiombane scored a career-high nine points while also pulling down five rebounds. He added a block, two steals, and three assists in 20 minutes of play off the bench.

THE QUOTES – Zac Claus
"[PSU] did a really good job of pressuring us, getting us on our heels, and we didn't take care of the ball well at all. We did not handle pressure well. We never were able to get into a rhythm with what we were trying to do."

"I thought Babacar did a really nice job. He was able to be a good asset against the press. He did a really nice job of running the floor and was able to finish some plays in the paint as well. Babacar is someone who has continued to be able to bring a spark off the bench for us."

UP NEXT
The Vandals return home to host Northern Arizona on Thursday, February 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
