MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Women's Tennis team will play its sixth dual match of the season and its second Big Sky Conference match against Northern Colorado in Greeley at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The Vandals are just 1-5 on the season but picked up their first conference win of the season last week against Idaho State at home.
RECAP:
Idaho opened up conference play last week with a 5-2 win over Idaho State. The Bengals took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches.
Laura Spataro and
Maggie Chen recorded a win in their doubles match, but it was not enough to secure the point. The Vandals went on to win five-of-six singles matches to claim the win 5-2.
Laura Spataro and
Melissa Huchet each recorded their second wins of the season against the Bengals on Saturday. Marta Magalhaes,
Maggie Chen and
Shion Watabe each recorded a win as well.
SCOUTING IDAHO:
The Vandals bring back four players from last year's Big Sky runner up roster, including second team All-Big Sky selections
Laura Spataro and Marta Magalhaes.
Spataro, a junior has 26 career singles wins to lead the Vandals while
Maggie Chen leads the team in career doubles wins with 24 all-time.
Chen and Spataro lead the Vandals in doubles play this season with two wins, all coming form the No. 1 spot.
Melissa Huchet and Spataro lead the Vandals in singles wins with two each.
The Vandals were picked to finish third in the Big Sky Preseason Women's Coaches Poll behind Weber State and NAU with 79 totaled votes.
SCOUTING NORTHERN COLORADO:
The Bears enter their first conference game of the season 2-4 overall, coming off two consecutive wins. Northern Colorado opened the season with four consecutive losses before picking up wins against Metro State and Colorado State-Pueblo last week. After facing the Vandals, UNC will play three more non-conference matches before their next Big Sky contest.
Theree players lead the squad with two win each so far this season. Milena Belianovich, Sarina Chabra and Madison Wolfs have each won two singles matches so far this year.
Belianovich and Wolfe are 2-0 in doubles play with both wins coming from the No. 2 spot.
