Schraeder Leads Vandals in Bedford Cup

MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho women's tennis entered the 2025-26 season on a high note, with several Vandals making it to the finals of the 2025 Bedford Cup in the Mountains in Colorado Springs, Colo.

On Friday, Sept. 19 the Vandals kicked off the tournament with a combination of singles and doubles play, facing a number of teams. Standing out for Idaho, Jessica Matthews and Valentina Rodas defeated University of Colorado 6-4, giving the Vandals their first win of the weekend. Several doubles teams and singles competitors went on to find success, with Idaho having eight wins under its belt after the first day.

Moving into Saturday, the black-and-golds Chenyue Xu and Soha Singh continued to see success as a duo, beating the University of Colorado and the University of Wyoming by two or more points. This performance secured them a spot in the finals to come on Sunday. In singles play, Naomi Schraeder and Jessica Matthews each snagged themselves another win, moving them into Sunday's final as well.

Four Vandals represented Idaho in the championships, with Schraeder achieving a two-set victory over the home team, Air Force Academy. She finished the tournament at the top of the Bravo draw, bringing a top performance home for the Vandals.

The Vandals prepare to compete in the Cougar Classic down the road in Pullman, Wash., on Sept. 26-28.
