HOUSTON, Texas – The shortened session on Friday was a successful one for Idaho, with the Vandals picking up a win and a number of other strong performances at the 2020 Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships

Katie Hale earned gold in the 100-yard backstroke, tying NAU's Lainie Bell. Her time of 54.75 seconds is a new personal best, and moves Hale into second in program history in the event.Â
Kaling Phung also scored in the event, finishing 13
th in 57.03 seconds, also a personal-best.

Hale began the day with the 200-yard freestyle relay, joining
Rylie Jones,
Emily Deitz and
Natalie Crocker. The squad took fifth overall in 1:33.08.

Heather Carbon earned a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition, scoring 253.50 points in the final.

Jones also placed fifth in an individual event, the 100-yard butterfly. She finished in 54.87 seconds.Â
Brianna Lucien took fourth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:23.97, her fastest of the season.Â
Aimee Iwamoto scored for the Vandals in the 100-yard breaststroke. She took 11
th overall in 1:04.09.

Phung, Iwamoto, Jones and Hale closed out the day with a sixth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:47.10.

Idaho currently sits in seventh with 222.5 points. Northern Arizona leads the Championships with 432.5 points. Competition concludes on Saturday.
