Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho- The University of Idaho Women's basketball team (13-7,8-3) fell to the Montana State Bobcats, 62-56 at home. The Vandals led 43-41 entering the fourth quarter but were outscored 21-13 in the final ten minutes.
Gina Marxen led the Vandals in scoring for the third straight game with 20 points.
Lizzy Klinker and
Beyonce Bea added 12 and 10, respectively.
THE GAME
Lizzy Klinker scored the first bucket of the game to give Idaho the early lead 2-0 less than two minutes into the game. The Vandals and the Bobcats traded points most the way through the first period before
Gina Marxen gave Idaho a 9-7 lead with a layup at the 2:48 mark.
With 12 seconds left in the first,
Natalie Klinker scored a layup inside to give Idaho a 15-14 lead. The Bobcats responded with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the period with a 17-15 lead.
Montana State controlled most of the second period and carried a 31-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
The first half of the third period was a defensive battle as both teams combined for just eight points during six minutes of play.
Marxen cut Montana State's lead to one, 35-34, after hitting a pair of free-throws at the 3:28 mark. The Bobcats quickly responded with a three to extend the lead to 38-34.
At the 2:36 mark the Vandals began a 7-2 run beginning with a
Lizzy Klinker jumper, cutting the deficit to 38-36.
Allison Kirby gave Idaho the lead just 30 seconds later, 39-38, following a three-pointer.
Klinker added another jumper to extend Idaho's lead to 41-38 with just 1:15 remaining in the third period.
With 17 seconds to go
Natalie Klinker put the Vandals up by five, 43-38 with a layup in the paint. Montana State again scored late in the period cutting the deficit to two, 43-41, to enter the fourth.
Less the two minutes into the fourth period
Gina Marxen put the Vandals up by six, their largest lead of the game, 49-43, with her fourth three-pointer of the game. Marxen's fourth three was her 130
th career-three pointer and moved her in to 10
th place all-time on the Idaho career three-pointers made list.
With 5:12 to go in the game Idaho led by one 51-50 before an
Allison Kirby offensiÂÂÂve rebound turned in to a
Beyonce Bea three-pointer, putting the Vandals up 54-50 with 4:30 to go.
A 4-0 run by the Bobcats tied the game at 54 with 3:06 remaining.
Natalie Klinker gave Idaho the lead, 56-54 with 2:47 to go following a layup but it would not be enough as Montana State would go on to win 62-56.

Idaho's defense forced Montana State into a season-high 21 turnovers.
Montana State and Idaho each finished with 22 made field-goals and seven made three's while the Idaho shot 41.5 percent from the floor compared to 40 percent by the Bobcats.
