MOSCOW, Idaho – Shawn Henderson wrapped up his Vandal playing career in 2011, but recently came back to earn his degree from the University of Idaho. A 2020 graduate, Henderson wanted to finish what he started.
"Coming from where I come from, graduating college isn't the norm. We are known for basketball but not finishing school," said Henderson. "I wanted to be one of the few to go back and get it done. I wanted to set the bar for my son and the younger kids that look up to me."
A native of Renton, Washington, Henderson began his collegiate playing career at North Idaho College before playing two years with the Vandals. He played in 30 games during the 2009-10 season, earning his way into starts on senior day and in the WAC tournament.
During the 2010-11 season, Henderson started all 32 games, averaging 8.9 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and 2.8 assists per game. He was named the Jay Gano Award winner following the season, given to the team's most inspirational player.
Coming back almost a decade later to wrap up his final few credits, Henderson persevered to earn his Bachelor's Degree in May 2020, hoping to be a role model and set a new normal.
