Men’s Golf Adds McGann

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's golf is happy to announce the signing of Matthew McGann.  McGann joins the Vandals in the fall of 2020 after a tremendous high school career at Gonzaga Prep.

"I'm ecstatic to welcome Matt to the Vandals," said head coach David Nuhn.  "He possesses not only the skill to improve our team, but also the drive and work ethic on the course and in the classroom to be successful.  He has worked with some of the best teachers in the region, including some PGA Professionals I have great respect for, and I know his fundamentals will be sound."

McGann played for Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, competing for four years.  He earned First Team All-Greater Spokane League in 2019.  He tied for 13th at the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) 4A State Tournament and would have been in the top-10 among returners for the 2020 season.

He helped lead Gonzaga Prep to three-straight GSL Championships, including a Washington State Championship in 2018 and a runner-up finish at the state level in 2019.  McGann's senior season was cut short, but he did win the 2020 Kennewick Invitational prior to the COVID-19 shutdown.

"Competing for one of the most elite high school programs in the Northwest the last four years has prepared Matt very well for the demands of college golf," Nuhn added.  "This is evident in the production we've seen from current Vandal Jack Plaster, another Gonzaga Prep product.  I'm thrilled to add Matt and I'm looking for big things from him and the team in coming years."

McGann spent last summer competing against some of the best in the area.  He tied for second at the District 5 Sub-District #4 tournament and went on to tie for fifth at the District 5 Championship at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.  McGann closed out the summer in a tie for sixth among high school student-athletes at the Washington Junior Golf Association (WJGA) State Championship.  He finished that tournament at 4-over through three rounds of play at Fircrest Golf Club.

His lowest round of his career came during his final GSL match in 2019, where he shot a 6-under 66.  McGann's favorite course he has ever played was La Costa Resort in La Costa, Calif.

McGann also competed in basketball as a freshman and sophomore at Gonzaga Prep.
