I moved a lot as a kid. I was born in Denver, Colorado, but moved around a lot as a kid. We moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and Seattle, Washington before moving to Carlsbad, California when I was around three years old. Carlsbad is my home; I've pretty much lived there my whole life.
For anyone who lives in Carlsbad, or the surrounding area, or knows about the area, you know that we basically live on the beach. I remember growing up as a kid I love riding my bike to the beach. One of my favorite things to do back home is going to the beach with my family. For anyone who grew up near the beach, you know how awesome it is!
Not only is Carlsbad home to amazing beaches, we also have some great hikes. My favorite is probably Torrey Pines. This trail runs along the cliffs of the beach giving you amazing views. I really enjoy that one. Â
Carlsbad borders another California city, Encinitas, both suburbs of San Diego. Downtown there is an area with a huge Carlsbad sign and an Encinitas sign. This area is called the "101" and I primarily hang out there. The area has lots of good coffee shops and tacos!
When I'm not going to the beach or hiking Torrey Pines, I enjoy walking my dog through the numerous trails in my neighborhood.
I am the first person in my family to play Division I athletics, but Carlsbad is known for college athletes. Club volleyball in the area was super intense growing up. Everyone I played with on my club team went Division I, the competition was intense but fun. Volleyball is probably the biggest sport for girls in the area, especially beach volleyball. I enjoy playing for fun, but if I went down to the courts and played it would be super competitive with multiple Division I athletes playing at any given time.
If you ever visit Carlsbad I highly recommend going to the beach and trying local restaurants. I have eaten some of the best burritos and tacos of my life in my hometown, especially the hole-in-the-wall spots.
Taking the drive down to La Jolla is a must do. It's about a half an hour away from my house, but there is a lot to do. You can go snorkeling, visit the aquarium, and see seals along the coast!
Moving to Moscow from Carlsbad was a struggle in the beginning with how different it is, but overtime I was able to find a home away from home here with my teammates and the community. I really enjoy being up here and being able to experience all four seasons and see parts of the country I haven't seen before.
