Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho volleyball team earned its second consecutive sweep on Thursday night, defeating Southern Utah (25-23, 25-19, 25-16) at Memorial Gym.
Senior Nikki Ball led the way with 11 kills on a .429 hitting percentage while teammate Allison Munday supplied nine more kills to the boxscore. Munday was also impressive during service, as she eclipsed a career-high six aces in the match, shattering her previous record set at three.
The Vandals carried the momentum from their win in Pocatello last Saturday with another dominant performance on Thursday. Early on, the Thunderbirds' offense controlled most of the set as they led 20-13 at one point. Idaho gained momentum with a 5-1 run to help make it a two-point deficit. Service and attack errors proved to be Southern Utah's achilles heel down the stretch as the Vandals would complete the comeback to win, 25-23.
A 7-1 run started set two with the Vandals having the upper hand most of the match. The Thunderbirds kept in striking distance but the Vandal offense kept the foot on the gas to win, 25-19.
The Vandals continued to impress as they led by five or more points throughout the final set to earn the victory, 25-16. Idaho hit .357 in set three to help boost the match total to .263, marking the Vandals' best total of the season.
Idaho earns its second straight victory and improves to 5-15 (2-9 BSC) while the Thunderbirds move to 6-17 (2-9 BSC)
The Vandals return to Memorial Gym Saturday night with a matchup against Northern Arizona at 6 p.m.
