Vandals Start Fast in 42-35 Win Over Portland

MOSCOW, Idaho -  Idaho football jumped out to a 35-7 halftime lead and held off a late Portland State rally to earn a 42-35 win Saturday at Kibbie Dome.

Idaho took the first drive 70 yards, highlighted by a 46-yard carry by Zach Borisch down to the two that set up his own touchdown run on the ensuing play to put Idaho up 7-0 with 13:34 left in the first quarter.

The Vikings answered with a touchdown of their own, before the Vandals score 28 unanswered points.

Aundrey Carter scored on a 41-yard run on the next Vandal drive and Terez Traynor caught a short pass from Mike Beaudry and went 42 yards for the score later in the first quarter.

Borisch notched his first touchdown pass of the season when he found Dalton Cash wide open for a 47-yard TD in the second quarter.

Carter scored again, this time on a 3-yard run late in the second.

Portland State scored as time expired in the first half to cut the lead to 35-14 at the break.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Vikings scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth before. Roshaun John capped off a 76-yard drive with a touchdown with 7:50 to play.

The Vikings scored with 4:55 to Plat to cut the lead to a touchdown. Portland State got the ball back with 27 seconds remaining and gave themselves a chance to tie the game on a hail mary, but Tyrese Dedmon broke up the pass in the endzone to preserve the win.

Borisch had a team-high 83 yards on the ground and was 1-1 through the air with a touchdown. Beaudry was an efficient 10-15 passing for 162 yards and a TD.

Traynor had over 100 yards receiving for the second consecutive game, finishing with 114 yards.

The win moves Idaho to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in Big Sky Play.
