MOSCOW, Idaho -- University of Idaho volleyball Head Coach Debbie Buchanan and her staff announced Wednesday the signing of four future student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period. The 2022 signing class includes Kate Doorn, Marissa Drange, Olivia Gloeckner, and Madison Wilson.
"I am really excited to welcome these four athletes into the Vandal family and can't wait to get them on campus," said Buchanan. "They are all great young women coming from some of the best club programs in the country. They will bring athleticism and competitiveness in multiple positions that will help catapult our program forward."
Kate Doorn | 5-11 | Setter | Bend, OR
Doorn, a native of Bend, Oregon, is entering her senior year at Summit High School. She helped lead her team to the Co-League Championship in 2019 while registering a top-25 rank in the state of Oregon.
"Kate is a very poised setter who knows how to run an offense," said Buchanan. "She is one of the top setters in the state of Oregon who can dish it from anywhere on the court. She is a very competitive leader who knows how to find a hitter in all situations and we look for her to come in and compete right away."
Individually, Doorn was awarded first-team All-League and first-team All-State in her junior season.
In the club circuit, Doore helped guide the NPJ Bend National team to a third-place finish at the Triple Crown in 2021. Pre Dig has ranked her as the fourth-highest recruit in the state of Oregon for 2022.
Marissa Drange | 5-11 | Outside Hitter | Boerne, TX
Drange, an outside hitter from Boerne, Texas makes her way to Moscow after finishing an impressive high school career in the Lone Star State. During her sophomore campaign, Drange led the district in kills with over 500 while notching the second most in all of San Antonio. She broke the school record with over 1,000 kills while helping lead the team to 28 wins in her senior season.
"Marissa is an extremely competitive athlete who strives for excellence," said Buchanan. "She was ranked 2nd in kills in the city of San Antonio her sophomore year and reached 1000 career kills in her senior season. Marissa is a 6 rotation pin who will come in and add depth and leadership right away."
In addition to her success on the court, Drange excels in the classroom as she has been selected to the Academic All-State team and Academic All-District team.
Olivia Gloeckner | 6-2 | Outside Hitter | Salt Lake City, UT
Gloeckner enters her senior season at Skyline High School where she has been selected to the first-team All-State team and AVCA Phenom List in 2019. Her exceptional individual performance has her rated No. 12 in the state of Utah on MaxPreps.
"Olivia is a long athletic pin touching over 10'2 and is working on becoming a 6 rotation player," said Buchanan. "She is a very dynamic athlete who is quick off the floor and puts up an impressive block. Olivia is a top athlete coming out of Utah who we expect to come in and compete right away."
She has also found success on the national circuit competing with Club V Volleyball, where she helped guide the team to the 17U Open Champions at Triple Crown in 2021.
Gloeckner carries a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Academic All-State team.
Madison Wilson | 6-1 | Middle Blocker | Colorado Springs, CO
Wilson, a 6-1 middle blocker, is in her final season of high school competition at Palmer Ridge High School. During her career, Wilson has helped lead the program to a 4A State Championship in 2021 while also being selected to the first-team All-State team that same season.
"Madison is a physical force touching over 10'2" who is very versatile and can play any position," said Buchanan. "She is a top athlete coming out of Colorado that runs an impressive slide and can bang from either pin. We expect Madison to come in and make an immediate impact."
In the state of Colorado, Wilson ranks No. 8 all-time in hitting percentage and is rated as the fifth-best volleyball player by MaxPreps.
