MOSCOW, Idaho - Washington State (3-0) used a strong second half to top the Vandals (1-2) 73-59 at ICCU Arena Sunday afternoon.
The Vandals battled the Cougars in the first half, trading leads with WSU 16 times before taking a 33-32 lead at halftime. But WSU used an 14-3 run midway through the third quarter to turn a one point deficit into an 11 point lead. The spark was all Washington State needed as they rode the wave of momentum to a 20-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and onto the 14 point win. Â
The Vandals shot just 32 percent from the field. Despite making nine 3-point field goals Idaho couldn't keep pace with WSU. Washington State shot 50 percent from the floor and pounded the ball inside all game, outscoring Idaho 38-12 in the paint.Â
Louise Forsyth led all scorers with 18 points on 7-19 shooting.
Tiana Johnson scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds.Â
Johanna Teder led the Cougars with 13 points. Charlisse Leger-walker Tara Wallack and Bella Murekatete all scored 12 points for WSU.
The Vandals will head to Reno, Nev. over the holiday weekend to take part in the Nugget Classic. Idaho will face San Francisco (Nov. 26), Nevada (Nov. 27) and Drake (Nov. 28) in the tournament. For the full schedule and Links to watch and follow live stats click
