RENO, Nev. - Nevada (2-3) made two late free-throws to edge Idaho (1-4) 61-60 in the second game of the Nugget Classic presented by the University of Nevada Friday afternoon.
Nevada's Nia Alexander sank both free-throws with four seconds left as the host Wolfpack escaped with a home win. Alexander led all scorers with 18 points.
The teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with neither team able to build a lead. Tied at 22 at the half, the Vandals opened up the scoring in the third quarter, building a six-point lead heading into the final frame. Idaho held a seven point advantage with 2:17 left in the game but was unable to score another field goal as the Wolfpack chipped away at the lead to edge the Vandals late.
Five Vandals scored in double figures in the loss, led by
Sydney Gandy's 14 points and four assists.
Allison Kirby scored 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Louise Forsyth scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Tiana Johnson scored 11 points and
Beyonce Bea added 10.
Idaho made 11 3-point field goals and held the Wolfpack to just 3-of-17 from beyond the arc. Both teams shot 35 percent from the field.
