Johnson Scores School-Record Six TDs in Vandal Win over SUU

MOSCOW, Idaho – Roshaun Johnson scored a school-record six touchdowns to lead the Vandals to a 42-24 senior-day win over Southern Utah Saturday in the Kibbie Dome.

Johnson tallied a career-high 30 carries for a career-high 174 yards. His six TDs is the most single-game total in Division I this season, FBS or FCS.  

Johnson's longest TD of the day came on his first run when he scored untouched from 16 yards out to cap a 10-play 74-yard drive to put the Vandals up 7-0. He added a three-yard TD less than four minutes later to extend the lead to 14-0.

Southern Utah scored a touchdown and a field goal to cut the lead to 14-10, but Johnson scored twice in short-yardage situations to give the Vandals a 28-10 lead at the half.

SUU scored on their first drive of the second half to cut the lead to 28=17, but the Vandals responded with a 10-play 79-yard drive capped with a 10-yard Johnson TD.

Southern Utah scored with 14:17 to cut the lead to 35-24, but Johnson again found the endzone with 8:24 to play.

The Vandal defense came up big on the ensuing drive Charles Akanno had three sacks on the drive including a strip-sack on the Vandal five that ended any hopes of a Thunderbird comeback.

Along with Johnson's solid performance, Elisha Cummings tallied 99 yards rushing on 13 carries. As a team, Idaho racked up 290 yards rushing. Mike Beaudry was 16-32 for 217 yards passing. Terez Traynor continued his solid play with six catches for 90 yards.

The Vandal defense held SUU to just 37 yards rushing and 338 yards of total offense on the day. Akanno tallied six tackles for loss and three sacks to go along with the forced fumble. Tre Walker tallied 12 total tackles and a pair of pass breakups.

The Vandals hit the road for the final two games of the season. Idaho faces Montana State in Bozeman next Saturday before meeting Idaho State in the Battle of the Domes on the 20th in Pocatello.
