MOSCOW, Idaho - The 2021-22 indoor track and field season gets underway this weekend with the Spokane Invitational at the brand-new venue, The Podium, in downtown Spokane. The field events start at 9 a.m. Saturday morning Dec. 11, with the running events getting underway at 10 a.m. For the full meet schedule, check the links at the top of the article.
This past spring Idaho sent nine individuals to the NCAA quarterfinals where
Zack Short earned all-American honors with his record setting shot put performance. The Vandals will look to build on the success from the 2021 outdoor season as they head into 2022.
"I am excited for this season," Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Tim Cawley said. "We have some amazing student-athletes returning and some very talented newcomers to add to the mix. With all the hard work they have put in over this off season the family atmosphere is starting to come together. My staff has done a great job getting them all ready and I can't wait to get started this weekend."
Returning NCAA qualifiers include 2021 Big Sky Conference triple jump champion and Freshman of the Year
Tayler LyDay.
Spencer Barrera and
Deyondre Davis were apart of the Conference Champion 4x400m relay team, Barrera won the 2020 indoor 400m title.
Tim Stevens qualified in the 1500 meters.
Zachary Nunis qualified for nationals in both the long and triple jumps.
Five of the seven indoor meets this season will be in Spokane, Wash. at The Podium. The Vandals will host the other two meets inside the Kibbie Dome on Jan 22 and Jan. 28-29.
