MOSCOW, Idaho – Junior
Erika Larsen and senior
Charles Akanno are this week's Vandals of the Week for their continued excellence in the classroom.
Â
Larsen, an elementary education major and thrower for the track and field team, has managed to earn a 3.91 cumulative GPA. Larsen has also been a Big Sky Academic Honoree three times.
Â
"It just shows that I put a lot of hard work into not only athletics, but also school" said Larsen. "Your career will be forever, but sports only last for so long."
Â
"The time management portion of athletics helped me in school and stay organized. It was a great way to keep up with classes, and even to get ahead."
Â
Larsen wants to have a career as an elementary school teacher while continuing her sports career as a coach on the side.
Â
Akanno, a linebacker for the football team, has graduated with a degree in exercise science and is pursuing a second undergraduate degree in psychology. After football, Akanno plans on going into the physical therapy field.
Â
"It is a change because the college experience has changed," Akanno added. "However, you can still get your work done. Anything you want to do; you can still do it on zoom."
Â
Akanno was grateful for the recognition and gave some great perspective on how he approaches his academics.
Â
"Academics are huge. That is the main reason why most of us are here. I embrace this. Not many people get this opportunity. When you do get this opportunity, you have to use it wisely."
