Sean Mullan leads the Vandals to a tie for 8
th place after the first two rounds of the Redhawk Invitational. As a team, the Vandals are 9
th entering the final round at Chambers Bay on Tuesday.
"Team was solid tee to green today," said head coach
David Nuhn. "I think the rainout of the practice round showed up on the greens a bit. Early on today we were looking for the pace and finding our way around the slopes of Chambers Bay. Overall, Sean played really well, Colt had a solid second round, and tomorrow we are going to have a great Vandal final round!"
Mullan started off his day red hot, as he fired in five birdies in his opening round. Mullan carried his first-round momentum into the afternoon, where he tallied three more birdies in his second round. Only five strokes from first place, Mullan is tied for 8
th with a score of 1-under, 141.
Not far behind came junior
Colt Sherrell, who is currently tied for 42
nd after Monday. Similar to Mullan, Sherrell caught fire in the first round, firing in five birdies in his opening 18 holes. Sherrell did not stop there, making four of his five second round birdies in his first eight holes of the afternoon. Two strokes behind Sherrell came freshman
Jose Suryadinata. While firing in two bridies in each round on Monday, Suryadinata sits in a tie for 47
th with a two-round score of 6-over, 148.
Junior
Jack Plaster and sophomore
T.J. Patterson sit one stroke behind Suryadinata. Carding four birdies in two rounds, Plaster is tied for 54
th with a two-round score of 7-over, 149. Sophomore
T.J. Patterson made his Spring season debut golfing as an individual. Patterson scored a 12-over, 154 and is also tied for 72
nd with one round remaining Tuesday. Freshman
Joe Gustavel carded a 21-over, 163 and is in 85
th place.
San Francisco sits in first place with a team score of 20-under, 548. Individually, Matthew Anderson sits in first place with a score of 7-under, 135.
The final round of the Redhawk Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
