GREELEY, Colorado – No. 7 seeded Idaho came up short against No. 2 seed Northern Colorado in the Big Sky Conference quarterfinal on Wednesday. The Vandals dropped the first set 25-17 and were unable to take the second or third set, falling 25-14 in each.
Avery Housley and
Bea Whitling led the Vandals in kills with six each.
Alaina Lacey had a team-high 13 digs.
Idaho took an early 4-2 advantage in the first set following an
Avery Housley kill. Northern Colorado took the lead from the Vandals and used a 6-0 run to lead 18-8. The Bears took the first set 25-17.
Whitling tied the second set 3-3 early on with a kill. The Bears would take the lead on the next point, holding off the Vandals the rest of the way to win 25-14.
Idaho battled with Northern Colorado early on, trading points to start the third. The Bears built an 11-7 lead, but Idaho responded with a 4-1 run, cutting the lead to one 11-12, after back-to-back kills from
Nikki Ball. The Vandals stayed within arm's length until Northern Colorado used an 11-2 run to put the set away, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
Idaho had eight blocks in the contest compared to just five for the Bears. Ball led the Vandals with five.
The Vandals finish the 2021 spring season 6-11 overall and 5-9 in the Big Sky play.
