Volleyball Set to Host Montana State

MOSCOW, Idaho
—Idaho volleyball continues Big Sky play this week, returning home for the first time in six games. The last time the Vandals were at home was in the home opener against Southern Utah on Jan. 31, and Feb. 1. The Vandals played two consecutive road series before having a home series against NAU canceled. Idaho played their third consecutive road series against Montana last week. Idaho will host Montana State in Memorial Gym this week.
 
The Vandals and Bobcats will first face off in Moscow on Sunday, Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. followed by game two on Monday at 6 p.m.
 
This weekend's home series is just the second home series of the season for the Vandals as they sit in sixth place in the conference standings with a 4-4 record. The Vandals are 5-5 overall on the season.
 
Idaho is coming off a series split on the road in Missoula. Idaho will look to hold off a hot Montana State team and move up in the conference standings as the season winds down.
 
Montana State is 8-2 in Big Sky play on the season and 3-1 on the road. The Bobcats enter the series on a seven-game win streak.

SERIES HISTORY/LAST MEETING: Idaho and Montana State last played each other twice in 2019. Montana State won both meetings. The Vandals won just one set in the two meetings. Idaho's last win was a 3-1 victory at home in 2018.
 
AT THE NET: Idaho has had success at the net throughout the season. The Vandals lead the Big Sky in total blocks (126), block assists (206), and blocks per set (2.86). Nicole Ball leads the Vandals in all blocking categories and ranks second in the Big Sky in total blocks (61), blocks per set (1.39), block assists (51), and solo blocks (10).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kennedy Warren was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 2 after a pair of big offensive performances in a series sweep over Southern Utah. On Tuesday Warren earned her second Player of the Week nod but this time as the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. The junior averaged 2.5 digs per set and 1.2 blocks per set in a series split at Montana. Warren totaled 23 digs and 11 total blocks in the series. She tied her career-high with 14 digs in game one and set a season-high with eight total blocks in game two.

RETURNING HOME: After six consecutive games on the road the Vandals are back at home for the first time since Feb. 1 when the squad completed a sweep over Southern Utah. The Vandals split at Idaho State and were swept by Sacramento State on the road before a home series against NAU was canceled. The Vandals ended the road trip, splitting at Montana last week.

STARTING STRONG: The Vandals are 3-1 on the season when winning the first set and on the contrary are just 2-4 when losing the first. Idaho lost the first set in game one against Montana and went on to lose the match. In game two Idaho won the first set and went on to win the match 3-1.

BOUNCING BACK: The new format this season features back to back games against all opponents. In the series' the Vandals have only been swept one time. On three occasions the Vandals have dropped game one and bounced back for a win in game two.

LEADING THE WAY: Kennedy Warren leads the Vandals and is fourth in the Big Sky with 156 kills on the season, averaging 3.55 per set. She had 18 in the win over Montana.

DEFENSE WINS: The Vandals have excelled defensively throughout the season so far. Idaho is third in the league in opponent hitting percentage. Opponents are hitting just .167 against the Vandals this year. In addition, Idaho's opponents have committed 281 attack errors this season, the most in the league.
