Vandals Move Up to 7th in El Macero

RESULTS

EL MACERO, Calif. – Freshman Jose Suryadinata and graduate student Sean Mullan combine for an 8-under second round score to help the Vandals move up to 7th place. As a team, the Vandals carded a 12-stroke improvement in the second round with a score of 5-under, 283.

"Such a great team round today," said head coach David Nuhn. "Jose was on fire. Sean played a very solid complete round as well for us. Possibly a little unnoticed was the 73 from Jack Plaster. When you have a great team round you need 4 scores. Jack played so hard today and produced a very solid 73 out there for us. I can't say enough about these guys grit and determination out there. No quit in the Vandals. Made some nice adjustments after round 1, going to find a couple things to fine tune this afternoon and be ready for a solid final round finish tomorrow."

Suryadinata caught fire on his fifth hole of the day, carding seven birdies in 14 holes. The freshman recorded his best career round as a Vandal, scoring a 5-under, 67. Suryadinata is tied for 8th heading into the final round at the El Macero Country Club.

Mullan picked up where he left off in the first round, carding a 3-under, 69 in his second 18 holes of play. After recording his first eagle of the season in the first round, Mullan fired in another eagle on his back nine, sinking a 16-foot putt. Mullan sits just outside the top-15, placing in a tie for 18th with one round remaining.

Four strokes behind Mullan is junior Colt Sherrell. The Washington native remained consistent with his first round, carding a 2-over, 74 on Sunday. Sherrell is tied for 35th with a total score of 3-over, 147. Not far behind Sherrell is junior Jack Plaster. Making a four-stroke improvement in the second round, Plaster sits in a tie for 52nd with a total score of 6-over, 150. Junior Joel Veenstra is tied for 64th with a two-round score of 8-over, 152.

San Francisco remains in first place with a total score of 14-under, 562. Individually, Matthew Sutherland leads with a total score of 10-under, 134.

The El Macero Classic will resume play with the final round on Monday Morning with a shotgun start.
