LEWISTON, Idaho. – The University of Idaho men's tennis team defeated the Portland State Vikings, 4-1, clinching the North Division title and the No. 1 seed in the Big Sky tournament.  

To start the match the Vandals took the doubles point to lead 1-0.

Adam Taylor and Alejandro Salvador Civera earned the win in the No. 3 spot, 6-4.

In the No. 1 spot, Francisco Bascon and Bruno Casino clinched the doubles point, winning 6-4.

In singles play, Salvador Civera put the Vandals up 2-0, with a 6-4, 6-4 win from the No. 4 spot.

Matteo Masala defeated Tommy Edwards in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, to put the Vandals up 3-0 in the match.  
 
Casino battled in the No. 3 spot against Nikola Dimitrijevic but fell, 1-6, 6-3, 5-7.

With the Vandals ahead 3-1 in the match Bascon defeated Matteo Fortini, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, in No. 1 singles to clinch the match win.
 
No.5 and No.6 singles went unfinished.
 
"This was a great team effort," said Head Coach Daniel Hangstefer. "The freshmen stepped up in a big way today to get the job done. 'Cisco continued to be an impressive force at No. 1 singles and doubles. I am so happy for this team and the way they competed."
 
Up Next: With the win today, the Vandals moved to atop the North Division with a 3-1 conference record and claim the North Division title via tiebreaker. The Vandals will enter the tournament as one of two No. 1 seeds and will take on the No. 2 seed from the South Division on Saturday May 1, in Phoenix, Arizona.
