CHANDLER, Ariz. – The University of Idaho men's golf team sits in a tie for 19^th after the first day at the highly competitive Cowboy Classic. As a team, the Vandals shot a 24-over, 600 and are tied with Weber State heading into the final round on Tuesday. The second round of play has been suspended due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning.
 
"Tomorrow we are looking to bounce back with a solid finishing round," said head coach David Nuhn. "Today was a grind in the heat for the Vandals. Tomorrow we will alter the plan and look to have a real solid team round."
 
The best round of the day came from freshman Jose Suryadinata in his opening 18 holes at the Whirlwind Golf Club, firing in a 1-under, 71 to start off the tournament. Within the first round, Suryadinata fired in a total of four birdies and carded an eagle on his back nine. The freshman wrapped up his second round in a tied for 51^st, carding a total score of 2-over, 146.
 
Two strokes behind came junior Colt Sherrell, who caught fire in his opening round, carding four birdies in his first 14 holes. Sherrell heads into the final round in a tie for 67^th with a two-round score of 4-over, 148. Graduate student Sean Mullan fired in an 72-even first round, sinking three birdies in the round. Mullan enters the final round tomorrow tied for 95^th with a score of 8-over, 152.
 
Junior Jack Plaster sits two strokes behind Mullan, with a total score of 10-over 154. Plaster sits in a tie for 103^rd heading into the final round. Freshman Joe Gustavel is tied for 114^th place with a two-round score of 19-over, 163.
 
No. 28 San Diego State sits in first place with a team score of 27-under at the time of the delay. Individually, Riley Lewis and Cameron Meeks from Loyola Marymount are tied for first place with a score of 9-under, 135 at the time of the delay.
 
The Cowboy Classic will resume play tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. with the conclusion of the second round. The final round will be played immediately after the second round has been completed.
