Taylor Pierce Joins Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's basketball Head Coach Jon Newlee has announced the addition of Taylor Pierce to the coaching staff as an assistant, returning one half of the "Splash Sisters" to Moscow.

"I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Taylor back home here on my staff," said Newlee. "Having the chance to hire a future Idaho Hall of Famer was a no brainer. Her basketball IQ was off the charts during her playing career, and I am so excited for our players to be able to be able to learn from one of the greatest players to ever put on a Vandals uniform. I have no doubt her transition from player to coach will be seamless, she was a tremendous leader and mentor for our younger players both on and off the floor during her career here. Her impact on our program is going to be huge in so many ways, I cannot wait for her to get started!"

Pierce will focus primarily on the development of the guards and wings.  Off the court, she will oversee the Fastbreak Club, social media accounts and community service efforts.

Pierce was a standout guard for the Vandals from 2015-2019 and is the all-time leading three-point shooter in Idaho women's basketball history. Along with setting several Vandal records in the silver in gold, Pierce also set the NCAA women's basketball all-time record after totaling 154 three-pointers in the 2018-19 season. Pierce's 137 threes in 2018 is the fifth most all-time in a single season. In her final season she averaged 4.53 three-pointers made, an NCAA record. The Vandal great totaled 472 three-pointers while at Idaho, the second most all-time in NCAA women's basketball history. In April of 2019 Pierce was one of eight women's college basketball players invited to the 31st annual State Farm College 3-Point Championship.

The record holder graduated from Idaho in 2019 with a degree in exercise science. In 2020 she signed with the Ringwood Hawks of the Australian NBL 1 south league, but the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

Pierce is originally from Carlsbad, California, and competed for La Costa Canyon high school.  She was twice named the San Diego section Avocado West Player of the Year and was just the fourth female student athlete to be a four-year letter winner at La Costa Canyon.
