SCHEDULE | WOMEN'S PARTICIPANTS | MEN'S PARTICIPANTS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Nine Vandals have qualified for the NCAA Preliminary West Round, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced Thursday morning. The meet will be May 26-29 in College Station, Texas.
On the men's side,
Zack Short, fresh off a conference championship, qualified in the shot put. His mark of 19.51m is the 26th best in the nation, and he enters the West Preliminary ranked 14th.
Also participating in throws will be
Grady Leonard and
Cullen Williams, who both qualified in the hammer throw. Leonard won the silver, and Williams the bronze in the event at the Big Sky Championships last weekend.
Zachary Nunis will participate in the both the long jump and the triple jump at the Preliminary West Round. He made the podium in both events at the Big Sky Championships and enters ranked 23rd in the region in the long jump with a career best mark of 7.71m.
Vandals will be competing in both hurdle events.
Ben Doucette was named a participant in the 110m hurdles while
Deyondre Davis qualified in the 400m hurdles.
Tim Stevens will participate in the 1500m with a season best time of 3:43.79.
On the women's side,
Malaina Thacker will compete in the 3k steeplechase after taking the silver in the event at the Big Sky Championships.
Coming off a conference championship in the triple jump with her career best jump,
Tayler LyDay will participate in the event at the Preliminary West Round.
Spencer Barrera's 400 time also qualified him for a spot in the prelims, but he will not participate.Â
The meet will begin with the men's hammer on Wednesday, May 26 at 11:30 a.m. PT. The men's long jump, men's shot put, and the preliminaries for the men's 1500, men's 110 hurdles, and men's 400 hurdles will also occur on Wednesday. The finals of those events as well as the men's triple jump will be on Friday, May 28, while the women's triple jump and the women's steeplechase will be on Saturday, May 29.
