MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho Athletics continues to raise the bar in the classroom, posting its second consecutive record grade-point average (GPA) this spring. As a department the Vandals finished the spring with a cumulative GPA of 3.37, tying the previous record for a non-pass/fail semester set this fall.
A total of 266 student-athletes finished at or above a 3.0 this spring, including 92 perfect 4.0 GPAs, an improvement on the fall. Nearly half of the department, 154 student-athletes, made their respective dean's lists.
Women's tennis led the department and set a new team record, finishing the semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.87. All seven student-athletes finished above a 3.0, and four posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
The football program continues to excel with another record semester. For the third consecutive semester the team finished above a 3.0, making the 2020-21 academic year the best on record. The cumulative 3.03 GPA is the highest during a non-pass/fail semester.
Women's track and field also had an incredible semester in the classroom. A total of 23 student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 GPAs, with 10 more above a 3.0, on the way to a team-record GPA of 3.82. The women's cross country team posted similar totals, with six student-athletes finishing the semester perfect, the entire team finishing above a 3.0, and a team GPA of 3.79.
The basketball programs both did well this spring. The women's team finished at 3.40, with 10 student-athletes at or above a 3.0. The men tied their program record, set in the fall, at 3.15.
The men's track and field and cross country programs also brought it in the classroom. The track program finished the semester with a GPA of 3.64, including 11 perfect 4.0's, while the cross country program finished at 3.54.
Men's golf was next in line with a record-setting GPA of 3.62. Three student-athletes finished the semester at 4.0, while the whole team went above a 3.0. Soccer finished the semester with 14 perfect 4.0 GPAs and a team GPA of 3.54. The swimming and diving team earned a 3.49 cumulative GPA, including 27 student-athletes at or above 3.0.
Men's tennis recorded the second highest GPA in team history at 3.42. Women's golf totaled a 3.33 GPA for the squad and volleyball finished the term at 3.22.
