MOSCOW, Idaho – Zack Short is set to compete at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships this week. The meet is June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore., with the shot put taking place Wednesday, June 9, at 7:10 p.m.
"I am excited to represent Idaho one last time, compete against the best of the best in the NCAA, and leave everything out there. I'm glad to end my collegiate career the way I wanted to last season before COVID hit - at the National Championships," said Short. "Regardless of the result, I enjoyed my time at Idaho, the memories, experiences, knowledge, and relationships that I gained during the last 5 years, and I am excited for the future."
Short qualified for the National Championship with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA West Region Preliminary meet on May 26. His mark of 19.71m/64'8" was an outdoor personal best for the senior and is the third best distance in Idaho outdoor history. Prior to the Prelims, Short won the 2021 Big Sky shot put championship, throwing 18.99m/62'3.75".
This will be the final event in Short's career at Idaho. In five years as a Vandal, the Lebanon, Oregon, native has won gold at Big Sky Championships five different times, with two of those wins in the outdoor shot put. He holds the Big Sky indoor shot put record.
