MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track and Field/Cross Country program is thrilled to announce the commitment of Kate Bouse of South Eugene High School in Oregon.

Kate is a talented distance runner who showed promise before the Covid-19 pause in competitions in the state of Oregon and has been expanding on that promise as competitions return.

The first part of Kate's high school career was highlighted by placing 11th at the Oregon 6A State Track and Field Championships in the 3000m as a sophomore when she ran a personal best of 10:28.27. She placed second at the Southwest Conference Championship meet in the 1500m and 3000m that season. She also ran a 7:29.14 in the 2k steeplechase as a sophomore. Kate placed 32nd at the Oregon 6A State Cross Country Championships as a sophomore and 38th as a junior.

After the long delay in competition due to Covid-19, Kate has upped her game. During a shortened track and field season she placed sixth at the Oregon 6A State Track & Field Championships in the 1500m and ran a personal best of 4:42.90. She ran a personal best in the 5000m of 18:31.6 on the track in March with a mask on and most recently ran a personal best of 7:18.99 in the 2k steeplechase to secure a spot at The Outdoor Nationals, a national high school championship meet in her hometown in Eugene, Ore. Kate finished 11th in the country at this meet.

"Kate is driven in the classroom and on the track. She is going to fit in great with the team and we are so excited to have her join the Vandal track and field family," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
