GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Idaho Vandals (2-0) defeated the University of North Dakota (0-1), 1-0, to begin the season 2-0 and sweep both North Dakota schools.
Maddie Haas scored the early goal for the Vandals. This is the first time Idaho has started a season 2-0 since 2007.
In the sixth minute,
Maya Hamilton drove the ball into the box, where the UND keeper was forced into a save. The Fighting Hawk defense was unable to clear the ball, and
Maddie Haas pounced on it, scoring a goal to put the Vandals up, 1-0. It was the first goal for Haas since the 2019 season. Overall, the first half was fairly even, with both teams having chances in front of goal.
The Fighting Hawks put the pressure on in the second half, outshooting the Vandals 8-2 in the period. Goalkeeper
Avrie Fox had a huge performance, making three big saves in front of net. The Idaho defense held firm, keeping UND off the scoreboard and preserving the 1-0 victory and a second straight clean sheet for the visitors.
The Vandals were outshot by the Fighting Hawks, 11-4, including a 4-1 margin in shots on goal.
Maddie Haas had three shots, including her goal, to lead the Vandals.
Avrie Fox (2-0) played all 90 minutes, making four saves while recording the shutout. Madi Livingston (0-1) took the loss for UND, allowing one goal in 90 minutes.

NEXT UP: The Vandals will travel to Corvallis to take on Oregon State on Friday, August 27. Kick off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
